Make Your Move Eco-Friendly

Celebrate Earth Day by Planning an Eco-Friendly Move

When you plan your upcoming move, let us help you to make your move eco-friendly. Earth Day, April 22, is fast approaching. First observed in 1970, Earth Day is an annual celebration to show support for environmental protection. One way to help the earth, regardless of when you move, is to do so in an eco-friendly way. Focus on the three Rs: Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle. At Clinton’s Transfer & Storage, Inc., we do our best to protect the environment. To schedule help with your move, give us a call today at (540) 552-3201.

Donate and Re-Gift Items as You Declutter

One of the first things that you should do before any move is declutter. A great way to be more eco-friendly is to be more minimalist. Moving fewer items saves space in the moving truck, reduces trips from one place to another, and uses less packing materials. Instead of just throwing it all out, consider a yard sale. Any items you can’t sell, you can donate. This helps others who can’t afford brand new items and prevents unnecessary waste in the dump. Throughout the year, practice responsible recycling, re-gifting, donating, and selling items rather than trashing them.

Use Eco-Friendly Packing Materials

When moving, it is inevitable that you will need to use packing materials. As soon as you know that moving could be in your near future, start saving any and all boxes. As moving day draws closer, ask friends, family, and neighbors if they have any leftover packing materials. You can also check out sites such as Facebook Marketplace or ask local stores for unwanted boxes. To protect fragile items, skip packing peanuts. Instead use dishcloths, towels, old clothing items, and soft blankets.

When your eco-friendly move is over, avoid throwing out moving materials. There is a good chance that you know someone who will need to move items soon. To get rid of them right away, you can also list them for sale or free online.

Plan Ahead to Avoid Unnecessary Trips

Planning ahead can prevent waste, disorganization, and buying things that you already have. Also, planning can save time and unnecessary trips to the store for packing items and trips between homes. Fuel is unfortunately not eco-friendly. Plan your driving route, and follow your plan. Drivers who follow a set route save money on gas and rental truck time. Save even more by hiring a moving company. We bring all of the needed materials and make one trip between homes.
